In a DHMS/Cornell study, both heifers and second lactation and older (2+) cows that were given one feeding of QuadriCal® after calving produced more milk per day than control animals (no calcium supplement). The study also found older heifers, lame cows, cows with high BCS and 3+ lactation cows would benefit the most from targeted calcium supplementation.6

Although subclinical hypocalcemia in dairy cows, commonly referred to as SCH, is asymptomatic, research has shown that SCH affects at least half of the herd.5 Left unchecked, SCH can result in negative effects, including compromised immune function; decreased feed intake and rumination; negative impact on future milk production and reproductive performance; and greater likelihood of ketosis, retained placenta (RP), mastitis and displaced abomasum (DA). QuadriCal® supplies four sources of calcium, niacin and vitamin D.

A return on investment of $44 per cow was calculated based on statistically significant data from a study of over 3,000 cows in New York. The return was due to both increased milk production in certain groups and reduced incidence of DA, metritis (in low calcium cows) and RP in certain groups.1
